RTLS Studio 3.4.0 Release

RTLS Studio 3.4: Flawless Tracking for Multiple Networks

By Hana McCulloch | December 11th, 2024 | 5 min read

RTLS Studio 3.4 brings improvements for anyone managing large or complex tracking areas. Subnets now sync more smoothly, tag accuracy has improved, and system upgrades are less of a hassle. If you’ve dealt with signal interference or time-consuming system upgrades before, this update to RTLS Studio makes the Sewio real-time locating system noticeably more user-friendly.

Better Synchronization in Sites with Multiple Subnets

With synchronized subnet management and automated anchor failover, your tracking system now ensures flawless performance even across large, complex areas.

Companies that use Sewio for complex projects sometimes need to create several subnets to cover a large area with a UWB signal. Such a case may be a factory with two production halls where forklifts drive from one hall to the other. All RTLS devices in these halls need to be synchronized, so the tracking works smoothly in the whole area.

Synchronization of RTLS devices in multiple subnets

And that’s exactly what the new synchronization protocol in RTLS Studio 3.4 provides. Instead of being connected to several isolated subnets, RTLS Studio now manages all subnets simultaneously. This way, the UWB signals don’t interfere with each other and every tag is located with maximum reliability even on the edge of each subnet.

Plus, this new feature brings another significant benefit: uninterrupted operation even if an anchor breaks. RTLS Studio can detect the problem and work around the faulty anchor. Before, the system required someone to manually switch over the anchors to restore the operation. Now, it’s all happening automatically within 20 seconds!

More Precise Positioning of Motionless Tags

By refining how locations are calculated and displayed, the new RTLS Studio brings significantly improved positioning for UWB tags, especially for motionless tags in complex (multi-cell) environments.

The tag’s position was shown based on all calculated positionsBefore: All positions are displayed.

Users tracking work-in-progress and production processes sometimes saw misleading positions when localizing motionless tags on production lines where tags “sleep” while operators do their work. The tag’s position was shown based on all calculated positions including all inaccuracies—sometimes up to 3 feet (1 meter). This meant the tag would mostly appear in the correct zone but occasionally on the edge of a neighboring zone or workstation, even though it hadn’t actually moved.

Now, RTLS Studio selects the highest quality (most probable) position, ensuring the tag displays where it really is with fewer “jumps”. So, you can see more clearly that your product hasn’t yet left the first workstation.

Create snapshots, and backups and restore them more easily

You can now transfer your RTLS Studio data to the new system with a single click when upgrading your Ubuntu or Docker.

We can’t avoid regular software upgrades, but we can make them as simple as possible. That’s why RTLS Studio now features the Data-Only Restore button that enables you to upload your data such as login details from your older version to a new RTLS Studio installation.
This new feature simplifies a once complicated process into three steps:

  • Create a backup
  • Install the new version of RTLS Studio
  • Perform a one-click data-only restore

This also gives you the freedom to experiment with new settings worry-free. Once you’ve created the backup, you can safely test different configurations, anchor settings, or parameters. And if the results aren’t what you hoped for, you can effortlessly revert to the previous backup by restoring your data.

Thanks to this feature, restoring data in Docker becomes easier, too. You can now do it independently without needing our assistance.

Protect the system in case of insufficient disk capacity

The new release makes RTLS Studio better protected in case your hard disk is nearly full.

When space is running low, you receive an alert and can check the available free space directly in myRTLS, if you’re using it. To avoid disruptions, RTLS Studio automatically monitors disk capacity and takes action to save space when needed.

With the latest update, these checks are more frequent, RTLS Capture is automatically closed if running in the background, and system protection now extends to both Ubuntu and Docker.

With RTLS Studio 3.4, subnets are finally in sync, motionless tags don’t “jump” around anymore, and upgrading the system can be done in three steps. If you haven’t installed 3.4 yet, get it now, and start working with the best version of your location-tracking software!
